The self-aligning ball bearing has two rows of balls and spherical raceway in the outer ring. The bearing is consequently self-aligning and insensitive to angular misalignments of the shaft relative to the housing. Therefore, it is particularly suitable for applications in case of considerable shaft deflections or misalignment. In addition, the self-aligning ball bearing has the lowest friction of all roller bearings, which enables it to run cooler even at high speeds.
It’s mainly used to bear radial load. Sometimes it can withstand a small amount of additional axial load. But it generally can not afford a pure axial load. Its limit speed is lower than that of deep groove ball bearings.
Self-aligning ball bearings mainly include: self-aligning ball bearings with cylindrical bore (10000 series), self-aligning ball bearings with tapered roller bore (10000K series), self-aligning ball bearings with spherical inner ring, self-aligning ball bearings with adapter sleeve (10000K + H series), and cage-free self aligning ball bearings with two seals and wide inner rings(10000VWB-2RS series).

This kind of bearings with adapter sleeves is mainly used on optical axis without shaft shoulder. It is convenient to be mounted and dismounted. Adapter sleeve can also play a roll in adjusting the radial clearance of the bearings.
